Rare Roman 'Enamelled' Applique Mount
Copper-alloy, 9.41 grams, 32.00 mm. The flat disc face of the mount with multicoloured enamels in three bands with a central roundel. The reverse with a tapered square-section shank. These circular mounts have been found affixed to bronze chariot shaft plates. Reference: Richard Hattatt Ancient Brooches & Other Artefacts; Part 2, Other Artefacts, number 49. Very fine and rare, with the enamel almost entire. Provenance: found Cambridgeshire, England.
