Roman 'Enamelled' Strap Fitting
Copper-alloy, 14.58 grams, 21.03 mm. Circa 2nd-3rd century AD. A cast copper-alloy fitting, rectangular in plan and triangular in section. the upper faces each bear a thick border with triangular cells inside, to accept enamel fill. the underside is hollow, with the remains of the attachment peg and button fastener inside. Reference: identified by Yorkshire Finds Liaison Officer for the Portable Antiquity Scheme. Very fine condition. Provenance: found at Hambleton, Yorkshire, UK and recorded with the PAS under reference SWYOR-C5CB54, with associated documentation.
