A restrung necklace of carnelian seed beads and biconicals, decorated with two gold rectangular plates and central carnelian trapezoidal pendant with small hole to the underside. | | Roman 'Figural Intaglio' Necklace Pendant & Earring Set 016457 | Roman Family 'Figural Intaglio' Necklace Pendant & Earring Set Gold, stone & glass, 5.17 grams, 35.29 mm. 2nd-3rd century AD. A matching necklace pendant and earrings set with carved design features of three wealthy Roman family members. Each face is housed in a rectangular openwork panel with incised line decoration. The two earrings have two glass beads supported by wire rods hanging from two loops. A ribbed loop enables suspension for the pendant, S-shaped tails are attached to the back of the earrings allowing the set to be worn. Reference: intaglio pendants are discussed in Roger, D. & Giroire, C. Roman Art from the Louvre, Manchester Vermont, 2007. Extremely fine wearable condition. Provenance: from a deceased estate, found Eastern Mediterranean in the late 19th century. | | | Roman or Parthian ‘Carnelian and Jet’ Necklace 014752 | Ancient Roman or Parthian 'Carnelian and Jet' Necklace Carnelian and jet, 20.09 grams, 50 cm [20 inches]. Circa 1st century BC - 1st century AD. A re-strung carnelian necklace, which has over 95 cylindrical shaped ancient carnelian beads, with 6 polyhedral and one axe-shaped 'amulet' bead made from jet. These tubular-shaped beads are of different shades of orange and red with different degrees of transparency. Some of the beads are drilled from both ends and they have conical opening, fitted with a modern clasp to allow it to be worn. A re-strung carnelian and soap stone necklace, which has 44 various shaped ancient carnelian beads, separated with with 44 elliptical soap stone beads, with a large pear-shaped 'amulet' bead made from carnelian. The carnelian beads are of different shades of orange and red with different degrees of transparency. Some of the beads are drilled from both ends and they have conical opening, fitted with a modern clasp to allow it to be worn. | | Roman ‘Granulated Pendant’ Pair of Earrings 017783 | Roman 'Granulated Pendant' Pair of Earrings Gold, 2.65/3.24 grams, 34.42/33.96 mm. Circa 2nd-3rd century AD. A delicate pair of Roman earrings, with the D-shaped wire hoop attached to a flat gold disc with ropework double border and central ropework collet. From the loop depends a ribbed loop ending in a ribbed collar and pyramidal granulation in imitation of a bunch of grapes.
