| | Roman 'Zoomorphic' Key Handle 019069 | Roman 'Zoomorphic' Key Handle Copper-alloy, 29.38 grams, 50.79 mm. 2nd-3rd century AD. A cast key handle with a square end; four triangular panels adjoin the ribbed band, from which emerges a powerful canine (or lupine?) figure posed as if running forwards with the mouth open and the ears flattened, the front paws positioned under the chin. One side of the item is damaged, revealing the inner structure. There are ferrous accretions on the rear which continue for about two-thirds of the length inside the body which is the remains of the key shank. Reference: Read, B.
