Roman or Parthian 'Gold and Carnelian' Bead Necklace
Carnelian and gold, 21.69 grams, 44 cm. Circa 2nd century BC-2nd century AD. A restrung necklace of carnelian seed beads and biconicals, decorated with two gold rectangular plates and central carnelian trapezoidal pendant with small hole to the underside. Reference: Dubin, L.S. The History of Beads from 30,000 BC to the Present, London, 2006. Very fine condition, modern clasp. Provenance: from an old collection.
