Roman 'Pitcher-Shaped' Jar
Glass, 50.43 grams, 70.29 mm. Circa 2nd-3rd century AD. A ceramic miniature pitcher with a tubular neck and a rounded rim; from the neck develops a narrow D-section handle which meets the biconical body with a narrow base. A miniature vessel of this kind was probably used as an unguentarium for perfumes or cosmetics. Reference: cf. Roman glassware from British finds in Allen, D.
