Roman 'Ring-Bow' Key
Copper-alloy, 30.70 grams, 62.93 mm. 2nd-3rd century AD. A cast key with flat-section body and elliptical-section annular bow above. The shank extends to a thickened finial supporting the lateral ward with bits cut into the upper face. The shank and ward are decorated with incised angled lines. Reference: Pall, M. Sclüssel und Schlösser, Graz, 2012 inventory numbers 4047, 5978. Fine condition, crack to loop. Provenance: from an old English collection; acquired in the 1980s.
