Roman 'Star' Disc Brooch
Copper-alloy and enamel, 4.46 grams, 19.65 mm. Late 1st or 2nd century AD. A disc brooch formed as a disc with reserved central pellet within a hexagon with radiating arms ending in pellets; the hexagon is filled with white enamel and the outer zone with blue. On the reverse the spring lugs and catchplate stub are in place. Reference: Hattatt, R. Iron Age and Roman Brooches, Oxford, 1985, no.518. Very fine condition. Provenance: found Tilbury, Essex, England.
