Roman 'Tubular' Glass Phial
Glass, 6.32 grams, 92.92 mm. Circa 1st-3rd century AD. A translucent pale-blue glass bottle with a long funicular neck and a flared rim; the neck develops into the tubular body which has a short bulb and narrow, flattened base. The glass is thin with an attractive, iridescent surface. Reference: cf. Roman glassware from British finds in Allen, D. Roman Glass in Britain, Princes Risborough, 1998. Repaired crack around centre, otherwise extremely fine condition. Provenance: from an old English collection.
