Rare Saxon 'Knotwork' Pommel Cap
Silver, 4.61 grams, 9.31 mm. 8th-9th century AD. A scaphoid dished pommel cap from a Middle Saxon knife. The decoration comprises raised borders delimiting the quadrants, within which sit reserved bilinear knotwork designs, similar to those on the nasal of the Coppergate helmet.
