Excessively Rare Severus Alexander 'Salus' Denarius
Silver, 2.52 grams, 18.12 mm. Antioch. 222-235 AD. Obverse: IMP SEV ALEXAND AVG, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right. Reverse: SALVS PSVLAS (sic), Salus seated left, feeding serpent rising from altar; star in right field. Reka-Devnia hoard p. 213; RIC 298 var (reverse legend); Sear -;. This unusual reverse legend is known only from an example in the Reka Devnia hoard (page 134) and is mentioned in a note on page 93 of RIC. Small striking crack, otherwise extremely fine. A significant coin which has been published on wildwinds.com
