The Gallic war uniface stater is die-linked to the last classes of the biface Stater. This type was produced between about 60 B.C. and 50 B.C., shortly before and during the Gallic War, and was almost certainly struck to pay mercenary troops fighting against Caesar in Europe. The lack of an obverse design certainly suggests that this coinage was struck in a hurry.
