Rare Tincomarus 'Verica' AR Unit
Silver, 1.14 grams, 14.44 mm. Circa 10-20 AD. Obverse: Celticized head left, pellet in ring motif for eye and diademed made up of a line, RVS around head. Reverse: Celticized horse left with symbols around. Celtic Coin Index Registration Number at Oxford University: CCI 08.8826. VA 473-1. Very fine/fine. Found Cambridgeshire. Recorded as extremely rare in Van Arsdell’s Celtic Coinage of Britain.
Dr. John Sills at Oxford University writes: "RVS visible in front of face, this was the type that first hinted at the name Tincomarus rather than Tincommius, later confirmed by the Alton hoard."
