Tudor 'Faux Granulation' Mount
Silver-gilt. 0.69 grams, 19.83 mm. 16th century AD. A repoussé mount formed in silver sheet as a lozenge with a broad border and raised central panel containing a series of bosses. The four corners are pierced for attachment. Very similar mounts were used as part of clothing hook-and-eye mechanisms of Type D3 in the Tudor period. Reference: Read, B. Hooked Clasps and Eyes, Langport, 2008 items 205, 210. Extremely fine condition. Provenance: from an old English collection.
