Viking / Anglo-Scandinavian 'Cruciform Hearts' Disc Brooch
Copper-alloy and enamel, 4.04 grams, 22.85 mm. 10th-11th century AD. A classic form of Late Saxon or Anglo-Scandinavian disc brooch comprising a central enamel panel surrounded by seven radiating knops (one missing) filled with enamel cabochons (two remaining). The central panel is a dark blue enamel background with an inset cross formed from four elongated heart-shaped panels, two with white enamel infill. The pin-lug and attachment point for the catchplate are in place on the reverse. Reference: West. S.
