Viking ‘Embedded Chip-Carved Triquetra' Gaming Piece
Lead, 15.20 grams, 22.39 mm. Circa 8th - 10th century AD. A lead disc with a dished top, into which is set a gilded chip-carved fragment of an Anglo-Saxon or Irish mount. Such an ornate piece would have been used as a hnefi or king-piece in the board-game hnefatafl. Reference: Pollington, S.
