Viking ‘Embedded Silver Ingot’ Gaming Piece
Lead, 15.33 grams, 17.24 mm. Circa 8th - 10th century AD. A lead disc with a dished centre, with a section of silver rod or ingot embedded into the upper surface. (The silver has been tested and verified.) This distinctive piece would have been very suitable for use as the hnefi or ‘king-piece’. Reference: Pollington, S.
