Viking ‘Embossed’ Triangular Pendant Ensemble
Copper-alloy, 11.45 grams, 75.41 mm. 10th-11th century. A suite of four pendants attached in pairs by round-section wire hoops to a spiral-ended wire volute hanger. The pendants are sub-triangular in form, made from 0.75 mm thick sheet bronze. An internal panel is defined by a bilinear embossed ridge. Reference: the form of the hanger is similar to the ‘chain-holders’ from grave 1260 at Luistari in Lehtosalo-Hilander, P-L.,Luistari (Finland), A History of Weapons and Ornaments, Helsinki, 2000, pl.57. Very fine condition.
