Viking Period 'Looped Closure' Arm Ring
Silver, 9.95 grams, 102.36 mm. 8th-11th century AD. A narrow square-section silver rod formed into a curved band. The ends develop into flattened circular-section wires which are twisted to form a complex double loop with a coiled motif on the outer surface. This form of closure is documented for Scandinavian artefacts of the Viking period and may have been in wider use. Reference: Härdh, B.
