Excessively Rare Viking 'Ring-Headed' Gold Dress Pin
Gold, 2.01 grams, 35.75 mm. Circa 8th-10th century AD. A gold round-section pin with coiled finial which encloses a coiled square-section bar forming the ring. Gold pins are rare in the Viking Age, and this may be a precursor from the 8th century or later. Reference: Fanning, T. Viking Age Ringed Pins from Dublin, Dublin, 1994 fig.20, 21, 28.
