Viking Traded Aethelred II 'York Osgod' CRVX Necklace Penny
Silver, 1.26 grams, 20.43 mm. CRVX Type; 991-997 AD. A Viking traded Anglo-Saxon penny that has been used within a Viking bead necklace, part of the original copper-alloy suspension loop still remaining. Obverse: profile bust with sceptre and +EDELRED REX ANGLOX legend. Reverse: short voided cross with letters C R V X in angles and +OSGOD M-O EOFR legend for the moneyer Osgod at York mint. Reference: S. 1148; N. 770. An extremely rare and interesting item. Provenance: from an old European collection, not found in the UK.
