Viking 'Type H' Sword Pommel
Copper-alloy, 22.31 grams, 60.02 mm. Circa 9th century AD. A hollow cast sword pommel of Petersen's Type H, triangular in section with a slight rectangular elevation at the apex to accept the quadrangular slot for the tang. Type H was a long-lived and popular fashion in sword hilts from the early Viking Age, found across the Viking world from Dublin, Ireland to Hämeenlinna, Finland. Reference: Peirce, I.
